A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, MICHAEL LACATUS
It has been almost two months since we all met at the CSAO Annual Conference and celebrated our success and planed for the future. It was also the time when I became the President of our Association. Considering the very good work done by previous presidents, I feel extremely fortunate, and at the same time, compelled to continue the professional tradition they have created, to safeguard our assets and reputation.
It was then when we/you nominated the CSAO Executive Team for the next two years and it is my pleasure to share with you their names and positions:
• Colleen Lander, Director of Education - representing Timmins
• Francois Viau, Director of Communication - representing Ottawa
• Cindy Cole, Director of Membership and Chapter Development, representing northern Ontario, Fort Frances, Kenora and Thunder Bay
• Rachel Walsh, Director of Finance, representing Timmins
• Lorna Coutoulas, VP, representing GTA
• Jean Richmond, Past President, representing Roblin
In my new role, since September 15, 2008, I represent the Association at various forums and functions related to the reprocessing of medical devices work we so competently carry out on a daily basis: some of which are:
• In behalf of our Association and together with some of the executive members, I held discussions with CSA in anticipation of a participatory engagement to create a Canadian national certification for reprocessing technicians. In my opinion, the meetings that have taken place so far have provided clarity of our position as an educational and professional association; we welcome the importance of a national certification but at the same time we want to safeguard our resources, be they financial or educational.
• On October 14, 2008 I represented our Association as a member of the OHA Planning Committee for an upcoming Medical Devices/OR Supply Chain Conference taking place in February 2009. On our Association’s behalf, I am honoured to co-chair this event which will target two very large areas; surgical supplies and the reprocessing of medical devices.
• On October 15, 2008 I was invited to represent our Association in a Focus Group Forum which was organized and sponsored by 3M. The goal of this event was to engage professionals and individual hospital representatives in discussions around the every-load-monitoring concept.
• On November 3 and 4, 2008 our Association actively participated to the Ontario Hospital Association HealthAchieve Conference held in Toronto. The educational material displayed in our booth was well regarded. The exposure received at this large provincial conference helps solidify the work the members of our Association represents. I would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone for their efforts in bringing this idea to reality. Special thanks go to Catherine Linwood, Lorna Coutoulas, Colleen Landers, Cindy Cole and Francois Viau.
Let me conclude by saying that I am very excited about my new position. I am firmly dedicated to the growth and success of our Association and look forward to the new exciting and energizing challenges the next two years will bring. The Executive Team has put some solid goals in place, but we need your support to achieve them. Please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts, ideas or disappointments with us. Our strength is in numbers and the motto, “Yes we can”, used by the new President-Elect of the United Stated certainly applies to our Association’s goals.
Together, we can create a better foundation and move our Association to an even higher level of professionalism.
Best regards to your and your families,
Michael Lacatus
